Location

A charming location where architecture and nature tells a story of a historical town populated by heroes and sailors.

Palazzo Murrano has recently been renovated but originally dates back to the early 19th century. The Palazzo is located just meters from the shoreline, in the main square of the ancient Seiano fishing hamlet, Marina di Aequa in the Municipality of Vico Equense.

AEQUA, BETWEEN MYTH AND HISTORY

The most renowned hero was the valiant leader called Murrano, an Aequa native, who fell in battle “in a great forest and in dying sought the ancestral mountains and the fertile vineyards of Aequa with sweet Sorrento, delighted by the healthy Zephyr” (Silius Italicus, De Bello Punico).

The city of Aequa had considerable commercial importance, so much so that its men participated in the Second Punic War alongside Rome, and during the Social War that shook the empire, they sided against the armies of Sulla. The traces of the ancient mythical city were halted after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD and the ensuing tsunami.

Today Aequa is a delightful seaside village, the main port of Vico Equense and meeting point between the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Coast, ideal destination for relaxing and enjoying the unspoilt hospitality of the area.
